UST grabs 6 spots in physician boards top 10

Thomasians claimed six places in the list of Top 10 passers of this year’s physician licensure examination, including the top spot.
The medicine graduates from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) took the first, fourth, fifth, eighth, ninth and 10th places, dominating the list.
Topnotcher Vincent Edouard Anthony Gullas, who also topped the March 2012 licensure examination for medical technologists, led the new roster of physicians with a score of 90.50 percent.
After Gullas, Marc Vincent Barcelona placed fourth with a score of 89.83 percent and Ana Erycka Elaine Peralta followed at fifth place, scoring 89.67 percent. Also in the ranks were Stephanie Marie Seno (89.42 percent), Simon Go (89.33 percent) and Kelvin Ken Yu (89.25 percent), taking up the eighth, ninth and 10th spots, respectively.
UST acquired a higher passing rate of 97.10 percent, or 468 passers out of 482 examinees, compared to last year's 94.84 percent, or 423 passers out of 446 examinees, data from the Professional Regulation Commission website showed.
The Cebu Institute of Medicine and Saint Luke's College of Medicine were named as the top-performing schools, both garnering a passing rate of 100 percent.
UST emerged as fifth in the list of top-performing schools, a rank above the university’s place from last year.
The national passing rate boosted to 82.19 percent, with a total of 3,340 passers out 4,064 examinees, from last year's record of 78.46 percent, or 2,899 passers out of 3,695 examinees. DANEA PATRICIA VILOG
