ADMU Blue Eagles clobber UST Growling Tigers
Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles remained immaculate after pummeling the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, 94-84, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 80 Men’s Basketball tournament on Wednesday at the Big Dome.
After the Growling Tigers trimmed the deficit to one in the 4th canto, 80-81, they broke down in offense missing the next eight field-goal attempts, eight free throws and committed five turnovers.
Eagle rookie Gian Mamuyac burned all cylinders accumulating eight points - his career-high to give ADMU a six point advantage at the end of 1st quarter, 29-23.
ADMU’s Matt Nieto delivered a career-best 22 points to go with his 3 boards, while combo guard Thirdy Ravena added 12 markers, 11 caroms, and 5 assists.
Marvin Lee and Jordan Sta. Ana gave UST a boost scoring 43 of the Tigers’ 84 points.
Highly-touted UST import Steve Akomo was limited to just six points by the outstanding frontline of Ateneo composed of Chibueze Ikeh, Mike Nieto, and Isaac Go.
ADMU maintained the spotless slate, 5-0, while UST is still searching for their first win after five games, 0-5.
The Blue Eagles will next face NU Bulldogs at whereas the Growling Tigers will try to get their first win against DLSU at 2pm, while the Blue Eagles will next face the NU Bulldogs at 4pm on Saturday at the same venue.
