Green Archers drub Red Warriors

The De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers notched their back-to-back win against the University of East (UE) Red Warriors, 106-100, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 80 men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Green Archer Ben Mbala and Red Warrior Alvin Pasaol lit up the basket in the first half scoring 21 and 24 points, respectively.

The 12-point advantage that the Archers built in the first half was erased by UE with a 23-4 blitz but the Taft-based squad did just enough to grab the victory.

Mbala posted 39 points, 15 rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Abu Tratter gained 24 markers and 10 boards.

Pasaol carried the Red Warriors with career-best 49 points including eight caroms and four steals. Philip Manalang followed with 14 markers and nine dimes.

Despite losing the game, the 49 points made by the Davao native Pasaol was recognized as highest individual scorer after 15 years, breaking the 43 points set by NU Bulldog Jeff Napa in 2002.

The Green Archers remained in the top two with a 5-1 record while the Red Warriors are still winless with a 0-6 slate.

DLSU will battle the undefeated ADMU on October 8 at the Mall of Asia Arena, while UE will face the winless UST on October 7 at the same venue.
