Lower passing rate for UST in 2017 mech eng’g boards; no Thomasian topnotcher

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) acquired a lower passing rate with no Thomasian examinees making it to the Top 10 in this year’s licensure examination for mechanical engineers.

UST attained a passing rate of 88.24 percent, or 105 passers out of 119 examinees, compared to last year's 92.00 percent, or 115 passers out of 125 examinees, data from the Professional Regulation Commission website showed.

UST also emerged as seventh in the list of top-performing schools, four ranks lower than the university’s place from last year.

The University of the Philippines-Diliman was once again named as the top-performing school, garnering a passing rate of 96.15 percent, or 50 passers out of 52 examinees.

Jay Nelson Talip Corbita from Xavier University led the new roster of mechanical engineers with a score of 92.20 percent.

The national passing rate also lowered to 69.01 percent, with a total of 3,517 passers out 5,096 examinees, from last year's record of 69.57 percent, or 3,110 passers out of 4,470 examinees.
