NU Bulldogs outwit UP Maroons

The National University (NU) Bulldogs hammered the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons, 77-70, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 80 Men’s Basketball Tournament, on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
NU wingman Matt Salem delivered the dagger three pointer for the Bulldogs to extend their lead to five with 22 seconds remaining in the game.
UP floor general Jun Manzo left with an injury in the third quarter, the Bulldogs outscored the Fighting Maroons in the second half, 44-32.
NU connected on 41% of their three point attempts, while UP shot a measly 30%. Matt Salem led the Bulldogs with 21 points, on a 5/10 shooting from the rainbow country, and 10 rebounds, while Issa
Gaye added 13 markers, eight boards, and four blocks.
Fighting Maroon team captain Paul Desiderio contributed 15 points, three caroms and two assists, while Diego Dario and Javi de Liaño combined for 21 markers.
The NU Bulldogs and UP Fighting Maroons are now tied at fifth and sixth place at the end of first round with an identical 3-4 card.
