Green Archers turn back Tamaraws

The De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers toppled the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws, 75-73, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 80 men’s basketball tournament, on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Andrei Caracut caught the final inbound play of FEU in the waning seconds of the payoff period to seal the victory.

The Tamaraws outrebounded the Archers, 49-38.

DLSU paved their way back to the winning column through a stunning game play by Ricci Rivero who garnered a total of 20 points, five steals and four assists, while leading MVP candidate at the end of 1st round, Ben Mbala posted 18 markers and 17 boards.

Kenneth Tuffin and Hubert Cani paced the Tamaraws with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

DLSU rose to a 6-2 card, while FEU fell to 4-4, tied with UP Fighting Maroons for fourth seed.

FEU will next face the winless University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, while the Green Archers will confront the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons on Saturday, October 15 at Fil Oil Arena in San Juan. KATE REYES
