This café in Laguna aims to be creative and defy the norms. Audrey Ann Lupena, one of the founders and CEO of Mermaid Café PH emphasized their goal to have an open-community that can start within the four-corners of the café.

“We want to build a community from the café ... a community where [you are accepted], you would not be judged, masaya [tayo], naiintindihan kayo ... lagi naming pinapa-feel sa [customers] na may community within the café,” she told the Dapitan Post, highlighting  that everyone can be a mermaid regardless of their gender.

“I think that is our strong edge, we are very confident sa customer service namin,” she added.

Mermaid Café PH is not just all about the cute place and tasty food. It also has a heart for charity service and marine awareness.

Every time you will buy the Mermaid Café PH’s icy beverage, Siren’s kiss, 10 pesos will be allocated to their charity fund which will be used every December and June to share happiness among the street children in the city.

“May heart kami sa young children na namamalimos … highlights namin ay Christmas and Back-to-school,” the CEO shared.

She also eyed  future activities that would raise awareness on the present condition of marine life: “Gusto namin kapag narinig ang Mermaid Café PH, iisipin nila: ‘Hindi lang yan food, may outside activity [rin].”  THERESA CLARE K. TAÑAS
