The Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws thrashed the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, 96-70, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 80 Men’s Basketball Tournament, on Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
It was a wire-to-wire win for FEU who took the fight out of UST right from the get go, ending the first frame, 29-16.
It was a huge bounce back for the Tamaraws after their two straights losses. They dominated UST and had their biggest lead of 36 points during the final quarter.
The Morayta-based team also embodied the essence of teamwork as they rounded the ball to all players resulting to 27 assists.
FEU bench flexed their muscles, outscoring the Tigers reserves, 62-22.
Ken Tuffin led FEU with 14 markers and three boards, while Arvin Tolentino poured 13 points and five rebounds. Jasper Parker made an all-around performance with 10 markers, five caroms and five assists.
Oliver De Guzman and Jeepy Faundo top scored for UST with 17 points apiece. They also collected 10 and 13 boards, respectively.
FEU rose to a 5-4 slate, while the unlucky Tigers fell to 0-9
FEU will next face the undefeated Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles on Saturday, October 21 at the Big Dome. UST has a week to recover for their next game and hopefully snatch their first win in their battle against the National University (NU) Bulldogs, on Sunday, October 22 at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
